Week 5 - Composition&&Aesthetics

aesthetics-a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty, esp. in art.
composition-the artistic arrangement of the parts of a picture
 (New Oxford American Dictionary)

Composition and aesthetics are what make up photographs, and are the skills, dimensions, and techniques that a photographer puts into his work (photos). For example, some aesthetics and composition include depth, focus, lines, symmetry, texture, etc. Composition and aesthetics are the elements of photography.

“Technique is really personality. That is the reason why the artist cannot teach it, why the pupil cannot learn it, and why the aesthetic critic can understand it. To the great poet, there is only one method of music- his own. To the great painter, there is only one manner of painting -- that which he himself employs. The aesthetic critic, and the aesthetic critic alone, can appreciate all forms and all modes. It is to him that Art makes her appeal" - Oscar Wilde

Rule of Thirds

compare/contrast:
In both photos, the texture of leaves is visible. However, the photo that is centered is more concentrated on the leaves, as opposed to the other photo, the leaves texture is more comparable with the other shrubs. As for the size, the plant appears to have the same magnitude in both photographs.
compare/contrast:

The centered photo shows the entire setting, as opposed to the other, only the half the tree and tire are visible. The photo that applies to the rule of thirds is highly focused on the swamp rather than the tire swing. Both photos show the same objects. The only difference is the camera is closer in the picture displaying the "rule of thirds" as opposed to the other photo. It almost appears as if I cropped or zoomed in to take the photo displaying rule of thirds. That is rather than making sure both objects inside the "third" boxes.
Framing

  1. The background and letters of your blog are black, you have to highlight the page to find the comment button. I love your shots and want to comment on more of them but it's frustrating to have to work so hard to find the button.

  3. Your rule of thirds photographs are great!! I'm really interested in the first one with the plant... It's cool how the leaves look so vibrant and alive in the first photo then in the second the plant looks so... dead and unhappy.
